Therefore, target groups for the exploitation of the developed system and the related service are environmental/ecological groups, organizations or agencies as well as central and local governmental agencies involved with development and environment. In this context, the sound maps generated and published by the proposed system constitute a scientific documentation tool to support environmental and social planning and decision-making, in order to treat socio-economic impacts of environmental change (prevention/protection measures, encouragement/discouragement of specific types of activities or uses, mild/sustainable development, etc.). Such changes are characteristic of underdeveloped or developing areas and have a direct correlation with social change and problems. They are of immediate interest to areas of environmental degradation or areas of gradual change of use. Sound maps are both a product and a service offered by the proposed system. A novel environmental monitoring system is developed that records, analyses and portrays the sound/acoustic environmental information on sound maps.
